Perkins Loan
Program in Peril
Perkins Loan
Threat Level is Red
As you probably know, the
Perkins Loan program is under an unprecedented threat to its
existence because of the proposals in President Bush's FY 2006 and
FY 2007 budgets to
eliminate it. However; it isn't dead yet; its up to Congress to
decide whether or not to follow the President's proposal. That's
where you come in. We need to let our members of Congress in both
the House and the Senate know that your institution or organization
supports the Perkins Loan program - that it shouldn't be killed and
that it needs to be funded.
RC Services has joined the
COHEAO
Grassroots Action Network (CGRAN); a partnership for the support
of the Federal Perkins Loan program. CGRAN is organizing a
nationwide effort to mobilize college and university staff members,
students, parents and others in communicating with Congress and
urging them to reject the President's proposal to eliminate this
essential loan program.
Below you will find links to
suggested draft letters in Microsoft Word and Adobe .pdf formats you can
personalize and fax or email to all
Representatives and Senators in your state asking that they support
the Perkins Loan program. These letters are also available at
www.coheao.org. Please take a
look at the draft letter appropriate for you and customize it to fit
your school or company, including printing it on letterhead if
possible. If you are at an institution, please ask students and
parents to send one of the letters designed for them.
COHEAO has now introduced a
simple tool for communicating with your members of Congress. All you
need to know is your home zip code to identify your Congressman and
Senators, find their contact information and email them from one
easy to use website.
